A billion dollar idea ... Sharing a glmps on Instagram

Did you know that you can share a glmps on the popular photo sharing service Instagram? Since glmps captures a photo we can easily send that photo to the Instagram app with a click of a button. Here is how to do it:

- After capturing a glmps tap the Share Options menu and toggle the icon that looks like the capture button in the Instagram app. It’s the third one on the top row next to the Twitter icon.

- After posting the glmps and it has completely uploaded a menu will popup prompting you to ‘Open in “Instagram”’. Click this button or select the ‘Open in…’ option to select other services to share too such as Camera+ and Dropbox. Note: This menu is required by the iOS SDK to launch apps from within glmps.

- After tapping ‘Open in “Instagram”’, glmps will be put into the background and the Instagram app will open with the photo from your glmps pre-loaded, cropped and ready for you to make it even more beautiful. You can see below I went with my favorite filter X-Pro II with Luxe applied.

- When clicking to the next screen in Instagram you can see the title has been pre-filled with the title you left on the glmps as well as a link back to the glmps so users can click on it and see the film leading up to the beautiful photo you just created in Instagram.

It’s as easy as that. At glmps we are focused on innovating, and being the first video sharing app ito share to Instagram is just one step in evolving our platform to be the best way to share your life through video, one photo at a time.

Facebook Timeline Support

As you may have heard the coolest thing since sliced bread these days is the new Facebook Open Graph. What is this you ask??? Well Facebook has enabled a way for apps to seamlessly share your activity within them to your Facebook friends. When you post a glmps, like a glmps, watch a glmps, etc.. all of those activities show up in your Timeline. Facebook even orginizes them by day, week, month and year allowing you to relive those moments from your timeline like below:

Facebook has just approved our actions so now you can share glmps with everyone you know by simply using the app. In order to enable this you will have to logout and back into Facebook using the following steps:

1. Go into your settings:

Click on the Profile icon in the upper right of the nav bar and then click on the icon that says Settings.

2. Click on Facebook Settings

Click on the Facebook item under Social Settings.

3. Logout and Login to Facebook

Make sure Post Activity to Timeline is on then click on Connect Account to toggle it off (if it is on). Then click Connect Account again to toggle it on. This will bring you to the Facebook login dialog within the Facebook app. Reconnect glmps and when you come back to glmps you are all set.

From this point on your activity within glmps will show up on your friends Facebook ticker and also on your timeline. You can disable this feature at any time by following the steps above to get back to your Facebook settings and then toggle Post Activity to Timeline off.

We're bringing the Back To The Future time machine to SXSW!

Are you heading to Austin for SXSW? Use glmps to capture all the craziness of the event using glmps - we’ll take you back in time to relive those moments later!

We’ve partnered up with Foodspotting’s Street Food Festival on Saturday at the corner of 2nd and Congress from 4p - 10p and are bringing along the most famous time machine of all - the DeLorean from Back To The Future. Come geek out with us and take a glmps with the car of our dreams.

Our favorite new feature:

Here at glmps we’re big fans of Instagram which is why we now share directly to them. You no longer have to choose because you can get both a video and a beautiful photo! All you have to do is tap the share options and you’ll find the Instagram capture icon. It’ll prompt you to open the app and you’ll be taken to the photo filter screen. A shortened link to the original glmps is added to the title so that anyone viewing the photo can also relive the moment through glmps.

¡Bienvenido a glmps v2.1!

Now we’re available natively in 10 languages: Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese and Hebrew. We know there may be words or phrases that aren’t perfectly translated so feel free to send us over any feedback because we’re trusting translators since we can’t even proofread some of those languages.

Other new features:

Search. Look up glmpses using keywords or hashtags by tapping on the star icon.
Scroll through previous glmpses. There’s now a “Me” option under the star icon that visually showcases your old shots and lets you quickly jump to them.
Users no longer have to log-in to experience glmps. The popular feed as well as nearby glmpses are now available for everyone. Creating an account is only required to upload a glmps or interact within the community.
Faster upload. Uploads begin immediately after shooting a glmps and continue in the background while a title and share options are selected.
Broader sharing capabilities. Can use your favorite photo apps Instagram and Camera+ to filter photos.

Tip: How to edit titles and delete comments

Now when your iPhone autocorrects to an embarrassing word in your title or comment you don’t have to fret because you can edit or delete whenever you’d like.

HOW TO EDIT TITLES

Touch anywhere in the title box (hint: it’ll turn blue)
At the top right you’ll see Edit, tap it and you’ll be prompted with “Edit title?”
To save click “Send” and your new title will replace your old one

You’re now also able to either delete comments you’ve written or delete comments others have left on your glmpses.

HOW TO DELETE COMMENTS LEFT ON YOUR GLMPSES

You can either select individual comments and hit Delete at the top right, or if you’ve got a lot of comments you’d touch “Show All Activity” and then you can edit them in bulk.

This Is Why You Should Update Your Apps

If it seems like we’ve been pumping out a lot of updates since we released version 2.0 right before Christmas it’s because we have… but the only way for you to enjoy the fixes and new features is to make sure you keep glmps up-to-date.

Today 2.0.3 came out which includes:

✔ URLs in titles and comments are now clickable and open in Safari
✔ URLs and hashtags are kept in the recent hashtag list for easy reuse
✔ You can now edit titles of glmpses you have already posted (see the FAQ for how)
✔ Added support for Emoji characters
✔ Added new notifications

Proof of Commitment

v1.0 was our proof of concept.

And v2.0 is our proof of commitment.

After many sleepless nights the next version - featuring an entirely new design/UI plus a ton of new features - has officially been submitted to the App store.

The approval process is likely to take some time so we don’t have a definitive date for its release but as soon as it goes live you’ll know because it’ll be all we’ll be talking about.

Stay tuned for changes around our blog and site as well as we change things up to match the aesthetic of the new app.

What’s New?

Last week we released a new update that’s available in the Apple App store. In it you’ll find a bunch of changes to make it even easier to capture glimpses of your life!

In version 1.5 you’ll find:

- A new capture screen
- Video saved to your library
- Focus by touch

Plus, it’s now compatible with:

- iOS 5
- AirPlay for wireless transmission

Latest updates and fixes

We’ve been busy since our launch last month working on getting several new updates out to address the growing community’s wish list of features and bug fixes. If you don’t have the latest version 1.02.1 make sure to go download it.

Here’s what’s new:

- Log in and register with an email address / password (you’re no longer required to use Facebook or Twitter)

- All glmpses with more than 5 comments are automatically collapsed to make it easier to scroll

- You can change your avatar by going to Settings -> Me, then touching the avatar next to your username

- There’s now a log out functionality through the Options menu

Why We Launched At BlogHer '11, And Why More Tech Startups Should

It seems just about every tech startup wants to launch at an insider event.

The trouble is it can be tough to stand-out amidst so much noise, especially at the big ones like SXSW.

Plus, the audience may not be a perfect fit for your product.

I know when we sat down and mapped out who we thought would be a large part of our core user base it was women. More specifically, women with children. It makes sense right? Moms want to use the best tools and platforms to capture and share special moments with family & friends. That’s what GLMPS is all about - magically packaging a moment that can be instantly shared with the people who matter most.

This past weekend we launched at BlogHer ‘11, the largest conference for social media savvy women. We were honored to be the first app to launch there, but I have a feeling next year there will be a line of tech startups wanting to get their foot in the door because it’s the perfect place to connect with women who are at the cutting edge of technology adoption and whose voices are heard by millions of people on blogs and social sites around the world.

As a long-time member of the blogging community and an attendee at the inaugural BlogHer|bet conference in March it felt like the best place in the world to be launching our company - among friends and peers who were cheering us on each step of the way.

Walking into BlogHer you see loads of multi-billion dollar brands vying for the attention of the attendees. Why? They’re some of the most connected, most influential women online and their female followers are the primary household purchasers and decision-makers in just about every category, including technology.

Did you know?

Moms are 18% more likely to have a smartphone than the general population.+
Moms are the fastest growing purchasers of iPhones.+
Moms are 40% more likely to connect socially via mobile than the general population.+
Moms account for more than half of their household tech spending.+

Power users are no longer predominantly young men - the rise of the female early adopter is here stay. Women are embracing mobile technology so they can stay connected on the go between business meetings and while watching their kids at sporting events. As someone with a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old I know how important it is be able to access information and share pictures during every moment of the day - and my kids love my iPhone because it houses a ton of games and puzzles for them too.

For us, launching at BlogHer meant getting access to the press, investors and the early adopters of our target market. Truly a win-win-win for any startup.

Next Steps, Plus v1.01 Is Live

First off, thanks for making our first few days absolutely insane. So many of you downloaded the app and started using it that GLMPS literally broke a few times. (Which is a great problem to have!)

We’ve been working really hard to increase the stability and address some of the major bugs people have been reporting. Last night we put out v1.01 which should solve a bunch of issues, although we know there are still major glitches for iPad and iPhone 3G users.

More than anything we just wanted to get GLMPS in the hands of users and are incredibly stoked that the concept has been so well received by folks in the media and the iOS community. Now our job is to perfect the experience.

We definitely hear your feedback and are already putting together a plan of attack for prioritizing privacy features and a new registration option that’s separate from Facebook or Twitter. (Although to clarify - we only grab a username and avatar at log in, and will never post to a social site without your permission.)

In the next few weeks you’ll see several features including the ability to make glmpses private, to opt out of the Popular feed, and to block followers.

We’ve got a ton to do so thanks for your patience as we work to make GLMPS your favorite way to capture and share magical moments in your life!

An Incredible Launch Day!

Yesterday, GLMPS appeared in the iTunes Store to a flood of downloads around the world that has not stopped. We are honored and thrilled to be trusted with sharing moments of your lives! Today’s launch coincided with the first day of the annual BlogHer conference where we are meeting many of you and getting to see you use the app for the first time.

Several of you have found issues with a few aspects which will be fixed in an update, and we all had a brief pause while we shifted our servers into overdrive to support the tremendous influx of users. To say the least, your response was more than anyone imagined!

Watching folks try out the app and record their first GLMPSes teaches us a lot, and you’re introducing new ideas all the time. Some people are saying hello to the world and getting video responses back in the comments (did you know you can do that?), and some are sharing personal moments with their kids and families. It’s really a treasure to see.

More is on the way, and we look forward to seeing you GLMPS!

We Submitted!

A few days ago we submitted the app to Apple (!!!) and now we’re waiting for approval so we can launch the next phase - a public beta.

More than anything we just wanted to say thanks to everyone in our closed beta team for helping us get to this very exciting point.

Making Room For New Beta Testers!

If you want to regularly use and test the app before it’s publicly available in the iTunes store, you’ll need to register your Apple device (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, or iPod Touch) with us through TestFlight, a program develpers use during the pre-release phase.

Registering your device

Register your iPhone or iPod touch with TestFlight (Note: If you don’t register while on it you’ll receive an additional email that will later need to be confirmed from your device before we can send you an installation email.)
Next, you’ll get an email with an easy “install” button - simply click it while on your device and it’ll open a browser window where you’ll need to scroll down and click install again.
You should then see the app begin to download and when it’s complete you’ll see GLMPS on your device - now you can start using it like any other app!

Once you’ve registered, we’d love it if you’d drop us a note and introduce yourself because we enjoy getting to know all of our testers.

Whenever we have a new build we’ll email out the latest version - it’s important for you to upgrade each time because we’re constantly making changes based on feedback plus plugging in additional features and functionality.

Just remember this is a pre-release beta program. What that means is that some of the features won’t work the way they should - or maybe the way you’d expect. We need your feedback to help refine the experience, and so we know what’s working and what isn’t, and where bugs are popping up.

What You'll See In Version 0.3

Heading in to the weekend we sent out a new release - version 0.3 - which has several new features including the addition of the more button, plus individual usernames and the popular button are now active.

Now that you can click on an individual feed you’ll also see how many GLMPSes that person has posted - simply scroll down to start viewing them all.

If you’re a beta tester and haven’t received an email with 0.3 yet make sure to check your spam folder because it seems some of our testers have had trouble with TestFlight emails bypassing their inbox.

Sharing A Little "More"

Yesterday we sent out invites to 75 beta testers - we’re keeping the group fairly small because we have a lot of features to finish but we’ve been itching to get the app out and are excited to see new faces popping up in our feed.

We’re working around-the-clock to make sure additional features are continually added and we’ll be sending out updated versions of the app to the group on a regular basis.

Tonight we’re finishing up the “more” button, which beta testers will see in the next iteration of the app… and here’s a sneak peek of it:

Gearing Up For More Beta Testers

We’ve spent the last couple of weeks breaking and then rebuilding GLMPS in order to get it ready for a larger group of beta testers. We’ve been fixing bugs, adding functionality, and overhauling the entire user interface. So yea, we’ve been busy.

For those in the private beta group - you’ll see several big changes when you install and log in to the new version.

A few of our favorites include:

social sharing for Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr (with Foursquare integration on its way)
the ability to “like” GLMPSes from inside the app
faster, smoother scrolling
commenting

We’ve also been working on the website and have added the ability to embed GLMPSes across the web from blogs to Facebook, as you can see above.

We're In Private Beta

Right now a handful of us are privately beta testing GLMPS and its share features. We’re working as quickly as possible to build an easy and clean iPhone app with a simple mission: let you push play on your photos.

We don’t have an exact launch date just yet but we’re gearing up for an early summer arrival in the iTunes store.

In the next couple of weeks we’ll be bringing in more beta testers so if you want to be part of that group or just want the latest news sent to your inbox, make sure you’ve submitted your email address through the form on GLMPS.com.
